Invites go out for Apple Watch launch event

Apple has sent out invites to the press for an event on the 9th of March at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco. The company will undoubtedly be using the event to announce the retail launch, full feature set and pricing of the much-awaited Apple Watch.

The event is titled Spring Forward, referencing that it's timed for the day after the clocks go forward in the US. The Smartwatch is unlikely to go on sale that day, but should be in shops by the beginning of April as previously noted by the company. Tim Cook will undoubtedly present the new device, which was already unveiled late last year.

The Apple Watch will come in a boggling array of variants in order to provide something for everyone in a fashion-led market. With two sizes, three models and innumerable takes on those six variants, there's a lot for Apple to show off at the event. However it may not be all it announces on the day.

Other devices will hopefully include the new MacBook Air models with Core M processors, which should make the best ultra-portable even better, and hopefully we'll see a retina display on it too. An outside shot is the long-rumoured iPad Pro 12in, a giant iPad for those who just can't get enough tablet action. Though we're still a little puzzled as to why anyone would need or want such a thing. An updated Apple TV is also a possibility, with greater integration with other Apple devices, and possibly smart home features too.

For major events such as this, Apple usually holds a UK event as well, so that we can get our hands on the latest devices without having to trek to the west coast. Either way, we'll bring you live coverage of the event on the night.
