PS4 owners will soon be able to pause and instantly resume their PS4 games from sleep mode in the latest PS4 'Yukimura' firmware update, Sony announced today. The 'Suspend/Resume' feature was first announced when Sony originally launched the console two years ago, but it's only now that it's finally making its way to the console.
"When we unveiled PS4 two years ago, we announced Suspend/Resume, a feature that would enable PS4 users to jump in and out of their games faster than ever," said Sony's Scott McCarthy on the PlayStation Blog. "This has been a feature gamers have been excited about since then, and today I am honored to officially confirm that system software update 2.50, “Yukimura,” will soon deliver Suspend/Resume, as well as a number of other requested features to PS4.
"Suspend/Resume, which will be supported by nearly all PS4 titles, will create an atmosphere where your games are immediately available at any time — just pick up your DualShock 4 wireless controller, hit the PS button and get right back into the action of your games. When it’s time to log off, simply put your PS4 in Rest Mode and when you power up the next time, you’ll start your game where you left off. Spend less time getting into your games and more time playing them."
This will come as welcome news to Sony fans, as Xbox One owners have been able to jump in and out of games in a similar fashion for quite some time. While it's a small consolation in light of yesterday's news about Uncharted 4 being delayed, 'Suspend/Resume' is just one of many new features that will hopefully give PS4 owners something to smile about.
For instance, you'll soon be able to customise the frame rate of the PS4's Remote Play and Share Play features for games that support 60fps, allowing you to stream gameplay footage at either 60 or 30fps. When you want to share a video clip, you'll also be able to upload them directly to DailyMotion.
Sharing trophy achievements will become easier, too, as the Yukimura update will automatically take a screenshot when you earn a trophy. Likewise, you'll also be able to remove games from your Trophy list that have 0% completion. Smaller updates include being able to search for friends on Facebook who are already PSN members, a wider variety of accessibility options, and the ability to upgrade sub-accounts to master accounts straight from the console when users turn 18.
Sony hasn't yet announced when Yukimura is due to be rolled out to consoles, but has asked users to "stay tuned" for more updates.
