No more waiting for 4K: LG UHD TVs get 6 months free Netflix

LG partners with Netflix to give UHD TV customers free access to 4K content for six months

If you're thinking about buying a UHD TV this year, but were worried about not having any 4K content to watch on it? LG and Netflix have teamed up to put your mind at rest, offering customers that buy one of LG's 4K TVs a free subscription to the on-demand video service.

Netflix is currently one of the biggest producers of 4K content for the home, with award-winning shows like House of Cards, Breaking Bad and the gritty Daredevil available for streaming right now (or the end of the week, in the case of Marvel's blind superhero). With no word on when 4K Blu-ray will be going on sale, and other on-demand services dragging their feet when it comes to UHD content, this new promotion looks like a great deal for anyone that has yet to give Netflix a try.

Codes will be included in the boxes of TVs that are part of the promotion, which can then be redeemed on the Netflix website. The offer is available for existing Netflix customers too, although they'll have to change their account to the Premium plan (UHD + 4 Screen) manually.

Thirteen LG models are included in the promotion, including the recently announced John Lewis-branded JL9100, which is set to go on sale later this year from £799 - one of the lowest prices we've seen yet for a 4K TV. Several stunning OLED sets also make the grade, as do LED sets that use LG's brilliantly simple WebOS smart TV interface. Unlike several incoming Android TV-powered UHD sets, which don't yet support UHD playback, WebOS is fully equipped to play 4K Netflix streams right out of the box.

Today's announcement coincides with the reveal of the first Netflix Recommended TVs, which are certified by the company to deliver the best possible streaming experience and of course include LG's WebOS 2.0-powered range. This means devices will start up enter Netflix faster than other TVs, and will gain access to new features sooner. That potentially means faster access to HDR content, which is expected to start rolling out later this year to compatible TVs.

Unfortunately for our foreign readers, it looks like this offer is limited to the UK for the time being. More details of which TVs are included in the promotion can be found on LG's website
