Ubisoft has used Sony's PlayStation press conference at Gamescom to clarify its promise of being able to invite fellow players into your Far Cry 4 gaming session - now known as The Keys to Kyrat.
During the Ubisoft press event at this year's E3, the company revealed a Sony-exclusive ability to invite a friend into your game, even if they didn't yet own it or have it installed on their PS3 or PS4 console. It now turns out that this will actually be limited to ten invites, which are good for two hours of gameplay each. Each invite counts as one Key, and once your invites are used up your friends will have no choice but to buy the game.
The co-op mode will be limited to free roaming Kyrat, Far Cry 4's fictional mountain territory on the border with Nepal, and taking out the game's many enemy-controlled outposts. You won't be able to bring a friend along to tackle the main story, and it seems unlikely they will be able to transfer their progress into their own game should they decide to buy it.
Although it's still a welcome inclusion for anyone trying to convince their friends to pick up the game, it's a shame it will be quite so limited considering how much of a big deal Sony was making of the feature back at E3.
Apart from the extra details regarding Keys to Kyrat, Ubisoft didn't provide much more in the way of gameplay teasers, but did reveal a few juicy plot details: Far Cry 4's chief villan Pagan Min is apparently searching for the mythical Shangri La, but protagonist Ajay Ghale will eat him to it - unlocking mystical powers along the way.
Far Cry 4 is set to go on sale on the 18th of November, on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC, although the disc-free co-op mode will be limited to Sony systems only.
