Unravel is a puzzle platformer where you play as a character named Yarny made from, you guessed it, yarn who unravels as you play, which is a metaphor for life (according to the developers). The game is physics-based, meaning you need to solve puzzles to progress. As you might expect, yarn plays a big part in how you traverse the world and it's a rather multipurpose tool.

The yarn can be used to solve simple puzzles, such as merely swinging across gaps, or it can be used to solve more complex puzzles. In the reveal trailer we saw Yarny climb up the yarn to reach higher platforms, as well as abseil down to lower ones safely.

There are also plenty of wild animals you'll encounter, some seemingly more friendly than others. Some more aggressive creatures will chase you whereas some others will help. You can use fish to help pull you safely across water or birds to help you soar. We also saw Yarny use kites in a similar manner.

The graphics have a delightful quality, seemingly halfway between stylised and photo realistic. There were plenty of weather effects on display including rain and snow. Unravel certainly looks like a delightful title and has come a long way in its supposed two years of development. The development team consisted of just 14 people.

The world is based on real-life northern Scandinavia and the locations looked gorgeous. We're definitely excited to see more and how intricate the puzzles are.

You can check out the E3 launch trailer below. Unravel should be coming to next gen consoles.
