We've heard a lot of rumblings about Samsung's Gear VR headset, first through an Oculus Rift-style headset patent and then via a leaked app, but now the VR goggles have been snapped in the flesh by The Verge.
Code-named Project Moonlight, it's expected that Samsung will officially unveil the VR headset at its upcoming pre-IFA event on September 3rd. It's here that Samsung is also expected to announce the Galaxy Note 4.
According to The Verge, the headset will take after Google's Cardboard and will use a smartphone screen as its main display. The lenses also appear to have a focus dial and a micro USB connection similar to most Android phones. There also seems to be a lid that clips on to compatible Samsung phones once it's been inserted into the headset.
It's currently unknown which phones you'll be able to use with the Gear VR, but if the picture above is anything to go by, we wouldn't be surprised if the current Samsung Galaxy S5 was among them, as well as the Note 4. This isn't surprising, as it was recently revealed that even Oculus Rift was using Samsung Galaxy Note 3 screens in its current DK2 developer kit.
We'll have more information in three weeks time when Samsung holds its pre-IFA briefing in Berlin.
