Motorola has sent out invites to a 4th of September event, where it looks set to set a release date for the Moto 360 and launch the Mot X+1

Motorola has started sending out invites to a press event on the 4th of September, where it is expected to finally announce a release date for the long-awaited Moto 360 smartwatch, as well as announce two new handsets - most likely a successor to the Moto G and a Moto X+1 flagship.

The invitations, which invite members of the press to the company's Chicago headquarters, points to a teaser site newfrommoto.com. The site shows a children's origami fortune teller with an icon on each of the four edges symbolising a product, all of which are rumoured to be making an appearance.

The Moto 360 shoud come as no surprise; it was the first officially confirmed Android Wear smartwatch to be in development, and although LG and Samsung got there first with the more conservative G Watch and Gear Live, fans of wearable tech have been eagerly awaiting an official release date for the smartwatch with the circular screen. Although it's not clear whether Motorola will put the watch on sale on the 4th, we should at least learn when it will be appearing on the Google Play store.

More exciting are the other three teasers, which seem to point to some kind of Bluetooth headset, a Moto G successor and the long-rumoured Moto X+1. Previous rumours had suggested the latter handset would be a new flagship for Motorola, arriving with a 5.2in screen, 12-megapixel camera and Android 4.4 Kitkat, but the rumour mill has been quiet for the past few months. It's unknown if Motorola has made any changes to the design in light of more powerful, high resolution handsets like the LG G3, or metal phones like Samsung's recently announced Galaxy Alpha.

Whether Motorola will also announce a brand new budget handset to replace the Moto G, so soon after it introduced a 4G version here in the UK, remains to be seen as well. With Lenovo close to finalising the deal to buy Motorola, it will be interesting to see what the company has in store at the event next month; we'll be sure to bring you all the news as soon as it gets announced.
