If two new Nexus phones weren't enough for Google press conference today, we can now confirm that Google will be launching a new tablet this evening too. If the rumours are to be believed, this won't be the next Nexus 10. Instead, the tablet will be going by the name of the Pixel C, which is no doubt a play on Google's Chromebook Pixel devices.

More importantly, the Pixel C won't be attributed to another manufacturer. Instead, it will be a entirely Google-branded device, making it the first tablet it's made in-house. Of course, Google also makes its own Chromebook Pixel laptops, but the Pixel C will apparently eschew Google's Chrome OS for Android 6.0 Marshmallow instead. It will have a 10.2in display with a pixel density of 308ppi, suggesting a resolution somewhere in the realm of 2,560x1,770 - the same resolution as the Chromebook Pixel.

AndroidPolice has also said the Pixel C will have a quad-core Nvidia X1 processor, 3GB of RAM and a Maxwell GPU. This looks like a pretty hefty specification for Google's next tablet, and it sounds highly reminiscent of the Nexus 9, which used an Nvidia Tegra K1.

In terms of design, the Pixel C will be taking several cues from Google's latest Chromebook Pixel, so expect to see a metal chassis and a USB Type-C charger. It will also have the Pixel's blue, red, yellow and green lightbar across the back of the tablet, which will glow depending on how much battery life the tablet has left.

There will also be two keyboard accessories to choose from, including an aluminium model and a leather one. These will attach to the tablet and charge automatically when closed, according to AndroidPolice.

Of course, such a high-end tablet isn't likely to come cheap, but AndroidPolice currently has no word on exact pricing. If it's anything like Chromebook Pixel prices, then prepare to pay a lot more than the £200 currently demanded by the Nexus 9. Either way, I'll update this article as soon as Google makes an official announcement about the Pixel C, which will be just an hour or so now.

A leaked report points to a new Google-branded 10.2in tablet going by the name of the Pixel C, which will be announced shortly
