OnePlus will be launching its next smartphone in London on 29th October, the company teased on Twitter this morning. Widely expected to be the OnePlus X, the teaser comes days after a filing was spotted at the Federal Communications Commission detailing a new 5.5in OnePlus model currently code-named E1005.
The filing also included a preliminary picture of the device, detailing a black handset with what looks to be a metal frame, a rear camera in the top left corner and a Micro USB port. The recent OnePlus 2, on the other hand, had a USB Type-C port and a central rear camera. The E1005 will also come with a 1.9GHz processor, along with all the usual connectivity and wireless standards, including LTE support, Bluetooth, GPS, an FM radio and Wi-Fi.

How the OnePlus X will compare to the current OnePlus 2 or whether it will also require a special invitation in order to buy one is currently unknown, as even OnePlus founder Carl Pei has been tight-lipped about the device. Back in August, Pei told USA Today that the company would be releasing a second smartphone this year, "hopefully in time for Christmas," he said, but revealed little else about what it might entail.
"It may or may not be (higher spec'd than the OnePlus 2)," he said. "When I saw the prototype for that phone I was like 'holy s--- that's going to be my daily driver' but then when the OnePlus 2 production version came out it's also super nice, so its really hard to decide now what to use. It's going to be amazing, but today I'm not going to talk about it."
Still, if the FCC picture (shown above) proves correct, the OnePlus X could be quite the rapid departure from the OnePlus 2, opting for a much plainer handset that ditches the textured rear of its predecessor for a smoother, matt finish. Either way, we should know more on the 29th October, so we'll update this article with all the latest information as it's confirmed.
