Deus Ex: Human Revolution did a brilliant job of reviving the long-dormant franchise back in 2011. It stay true to the feel of the first two games, the team here enjoyed it greatly, it reviewed well, and now this year we’re going to get a sequel in the form of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

The new game is a direct continuation of the last, with you taking control of Adam Jensen once again. The world has becoming increasingly polarised between the augmented and non-augmented humans, with apartheid between the two being enacted and terrorist attacks across globe. Jensen is working for a taskforce fighting augmented terrorism, but nothing is going to be that straightforward of course.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided release date

The latest game in the series has a solid 2016 release date: August 23rd. This is exactly five years to the day since the release of the last game in the series, which means developer Eidos Montreal has had plenty of time to polish its latest effort.

It’s also probably been timed to coincide with the wide adoption of the current games consoles. After last year’s RPG stars, Witcher 3 and Fallout 4, we’re betting Mankind Divided is going to be equally huge this year. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be availble on PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

Here's the original trailer to give you an idea of what you're waiting for.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided gameplay

As in previous games, your actions in Mankind Divided will almost certainly change the fate of the world at large. The game once again mixes combat, stealth, hacking and conversation elements, allowing you to approach situations as prefer based on how you spec out Jensen’s cybernetic augmentations.

The developer has promised to improve the direct approach this time around, making head-to-head combat more enjoyable, to put it on parity with the excellent stealth gameplay from the last title. There’s multiple ammo types this time, with EMP rounds that disable electronics and armour-piercing ammo to take down tougher targets.

Jensen’s augmentations certainly look more powerful this time around with some nifty new add-ons that allow him to shoot forward, even upwards to reach higher ground, and take out multiple foes with a single electric blast.

The hacking subgame looks to be more involved and you can now hack devices from a distance, allowing you to disable cameras and control robots without actually reaching them - who knew they’d have Wi-Fi in the future too!

The video below demonstrates all of this in action, and should really wet your appetite for the upcoming game, though there is a plot spoiler half-way through which you can click past if you don’t want to see it, though you’ll miss out on the conversation part of the game.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided pre-order

Originally Deus Ex: Mankind Divided had a weird Kickstarter-styled pre-order system by which the more people that pre-ordered the game, the more bonus content you all got when it was release. Apparently people hated it, as they wanted everything and they wanted to be sure of getting it, so the system was scrapped.

Anyone pre-ordering the game no gets the Day One Edition which comes with a wide range of additional content, with an extra mission, extra gear, an artbook and soundtrack sampler. There’s also a Collectors Edition that comes with a 9in Adam jensen figure, a 48-page artbook and steelbook case. Both are available from all the usual retailers, including Amazon.
