Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare - release date, price and Modern Warfare: Remastered

Activision have finally released definitive details about its next Call of Duty game. Titled Infinite Warfare, the game will be released on the 4th Novemberthis year on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Featuring the series staple multiplayer, zombie mode and a campaign that's said to be “a return to the franchise’s gritty, military roots" with "new environments never before seen in the franchise," Infinite Warfare will no doubt come as welcome news for those who have utterly exhausted last year's rather excellent Black Ops 3.

Infinite Warfare will also have a nice surprise for returning fans of the series, too, as Activision also announced a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (also for Xbox One, PS4 and PC), much to the delight of vocal fans. If you’re thinking of buying it on it’s own though, you’re somewhat out of luck.

Featuring the full campaign and 10 multiplayer maps from the 2007 Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare Remastered will feature all-new next-gen textures, a completely revamped lighting engine and a full multiplayer progression system. Classic multiplayer maps Crash, Backlot and Crossfire have already been announced via a new trailer, and there are even glimpses of the original campaign missions as well. However, it will only be included in the Legacy, Legacy Pro and Digital Deluxe editions of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, setting you back a minimum of £69.

That means anyone buying the base game version priced at £49 won't get Modern Warfare Remastered. It also hasn't announced any plans to release the game as a standalone title or even a boxed release in the future, reiterating that the only way to play Modern Warfare Remastered is with a copy of the Infinite Warfare special editions. What's more, Activision has also said that it will be using dedicated servers as well, so don’t expect your old multiplayer stats to carry over. It's time to part with your old k/d ratio.

That said, there is a way you could potentially avoid the high price if you just want the Modern Warfare remaster and not the annual Call of Duty instalment. Your best bet would be to purchase the Legacy edition on release, keep the download code for Modern Warfare Remastered for yourself, and then sell Infinite Warfare on its own, hopefully making back a little bit of money in the process if you have no intention of playing it.

Of course, only time will tell if Activision release the game as a standalone version, as it may well launch the game separately some time after Infinite Warfare comes out, so those on the fence may well be better off waiting to see what happens rather than put down £69 right now on a pre-order. After all, a digital remastered version of the very first Call of Duty game was packaged with the original release of Modern Warfare 2 back in 2009, but released separately shortly after, so it's possibly Activision could do the same thing with Modern Warfare Remastered this time as well.

If you simply can't wait to get your hands on both games, though, then the good news is that retailers have already started taking pre-orders for all the various editions, so make sure to put in a order now if you want to be first in line come launch day. Pre-order now from Amazon.
