How to share Amazon Prime (including Prime Video) with multiple users

Over the years, Amazon Prime has grown-and-grown to become more than just an expedited delivery service. Nowadays, the £79 yearly membership gets you a whole lot more, from Amazon Prime Music, online photo storage, discounts on nappies, Kindle Owners' Lending Library for eBooks, early access for Amazon's Lightning deals and, perhaps most enticingly, you also get access to Amazon Prime Instant Video.

Amazon's Prime Instant Video is a major rival to Netflix with a wealth of content available to stream completely free as part of your Prime membership. Much like Netflix, Amazon is now in the business of producing its own exclusive content as part of Amazon Originals, which means shows such as The Man in the High Castle and Mozart in the Jungle can only be legally watched on Amazon Prime Instant Video. Amazon still has separate streaming content that isn't part of the Prime Instant Video service, however, so look out for the Prime logo to ensure you're not charged for renting or buying streaming content.

You're able to share many of the benefits of an Amazon Prime subscription with other users, by creating an Amazon Household. In the past, you could create a Household with up to four adults, but this has been reduced to just two (you and one other). You can still add up to four children, at least, so you can customise the experience for younger users and create custom libraries depending on their age and tastes.

When sharing with another adult this gives them access to one-day delivery, Prime Instant Video, early access and Kindle Owner's Lending Library and requires that they have their own Amazon account.

How to create an Amazon Household

Amazon Household

To create an Amazon Household, navigate to the Manage Your Content and Devices section of the Amazon website by going to Your Account > Manage Your Content and Devices (under Digital Content). Now navigate to the Settings tab. Under Households and Family Library click Invite an Adult.

You'll then need to sign into the Amazon account of the other person you would like to create an Amazon Household with or create a new account for them. After this, you're able to choose to share payment information between accounts as well as select what content you want to share.

As for video streaming, Amazon's terms and conditions dictate that you are able to stream two different videos at the same time per Amazon account. You can't, however, stream the same content to two different devices at the same time.
