New leaked gameplay details for Titanfall 2 have appeared online, which may have given us our first glimpse at what we can expect. While there isn't any official information about the sequel to the 2014 mech-based shoot-em-up, such as a specific release date, we do have a few details thanks to a leak on Reddit on the 24th May.
Titanfall 2 will supposedly have bigger maps and a higher player count too along with free-running mechs and a grappling hook ability. The information, which has since been deleted, goes into more depth with what we can expect from the grappling hook, detailing: "You can use it quite extensively, for getting into your Titan, aiding free-running, or tactical plays such as pulling enemies while they're midair."
As with most game launches nowadays, Titanfall 2 will supposedly have a preorder bonus item, a handgun called: 'The Violator'. According to the leak, Titanfall 2 will have a release date in October, around the same time as Battlefield 1, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Gears of War 4, so I'd imagine Autumn 2016 will be a massive shooter-fest. Obviously, the leak hasn't been verified so should be treated with a grain of salt and we will likely get more official information at the EA Play event on 12th June.
Teaser trailer and what we know so far
A short 45-second Titanfall 2 teaser trailer was released back in April, giving us a brief glimpse of what we can expect. In the first look, we got to see a drop pod opening and a titan mech brandishing a sword too. There's not much to go on just yet, but we do know Titanfall 2 has been given the same launch window as Battlefield 1, launching in Q3. This means we are likely to see the next game in the series launch before April 2017.
The first Titanfall game came out in March 2014, released exclusively for the Xbox One and PC and was developed by Respawn Entertainment, formed by ex-Infinity Ward members. When we reviewed the game way back when, we called it: 'A brilliant update to the FPS formula, with both parkour pilots and towering robots providing thrills aplenty', giving it five stars and a Best Buy award. Features we'd like to see
The free-running movement system is what made the first Titanfall stand out from the crowd and it would be great to see even more movement options in the sequel. A free-running mech would be awesome, with the grappling hook allowing for more cool moments. The first game suffered a bit from stale gameplay, though, with a lack of variety in features to hold player's attentions for long, so I'd expect more features and hopefully a bigger variety in weaponry.
It would also be nice to see a new game engine too, considering Source, used to power the first installment, showed its age a bit even on release. As Titanfall 2 is going to release on next-gen consoles and PC only, we can assume it won't be constrained to the performance of older consoles and should, hopefully, look as pretty as possible.
