Pokemon Go isn't out in the UK yet, but here's how you can get on your iPhone right now

12 Jul 2016

Pokemon Go, Niantic's augmented reality game where you catch Pokemon in real world locations using your smartphone camera, has taken the world by storm. Or, at least it has in the US and Australia, as the UK launch of Pokemon Go has currently been delayed due to the sheer amount of users currently hammering its servers.

However, wannabe Pokemon trainers in the UK can still download and start using Pokemon Go despite it not having officially launched yet. In this article, I'll explain how to get Pokemon Go on your iPhone and iPad, but those looking to download it on to an Android device should read our How to get Pokemon Go on Android article instead.

Step 1: The first thing you need to do is log out of the App Store. To do this, tap on Apple ID and then Sign Out.

Step 2: Now you need to trick your iPhone into thinking you're in the US. Go to Settings > General > Language & Region > Region and select United States.

Step 3: Go to the US App Store and find Pokemon Go's main listing page and install the app.

Step 4: You'll be asked to create a new US iTunes account, but since the app is free, you should select None for billing information.

Step 5: You'll also need to use a different email address from the one connected to your UK iTunes account, so verify your new email address by following the onscreen instructions.

Step 6: You should now be able to install the app like you would any other iOS app. Once it's finished installing, log out of the US App Store, and return your Region settings to the UK, which you can do by following steps 1 and 2 of this guide. All you then need to do is log back in to your proper UK account.

You'll need at least an iPhone 5 or later to run Pokemon Go, and you'll also need to be running at least iOS 8.0 or later. Pokemon Go will not work on jailbroken iOS devices. It also requires a strong internet connection – either Wi-Fi or 3G or 4G data signal - as well as use of your GPS, so make sure you've got enough battery charge before you start heading out into the wild to catch 'em all.
