With help from a Hollywood great, Panasonic has gone all in on its latest OLED panel

31 Aug 2016

Japanese TV manufacturer Panasonic has unveiled its new OLED TV prototype “which hints at the next major advancement in TV technology”, according to Panasonic.

Know for striving to attain the best picture quality for its devices, Panasonic’s prototype is purportedly bringing a plasma-quality picture to an OLED panel. While this isn’t the first OLED TV Panasonic has made, that accolade belongs to the catchily named 4K Pro CZ950 series, this new “reference” panel sets the precedent for what will come next.

In striving to produce the perfect OLED display, Panasonic teamed up with Hollywood colourist Mike Sowa to help professionally fine-tune and approve the new TX-65CZ950 panel. Thanks to his help, Panasonic’s TV can create perfect colour replication of some of the biggest feature films around.

Of course, what does this actually mean for you? Well, at this year’s IFA in Berlin Panasonic is showing off a range of prototype OLED displays that will be coming in the next-generation of Panasonic TVs.

Panasonic’s move into OLED is an interesting one seeing as South Korean-manufacturer LG was previously the only player in the OLED screen space. Many other manufacturers decided to abandon the technology due to its higher production costs but now it would seem that Panasonic is more than happy with the results OLED can produce.

To complement the introduction of these new panels, Panasonic is also releasing a new Ultra-HD Blu-ray player capable of “pin-sharp 4K” and support for High Dynamic Range images.

Basically, if you want a decent 4K TV that’s super-thin, Panasonic’s got your back with its next slew of devices.
