There’s nothing worse than sitting down to watch a brand-new TV show or film only to find it’s not available to stream in your country. Netflix is notorious for this, and while Amazon isn’t quite as bad, there’s still plenty of content locked away. Thankfully, there is a way to get around this.
Before we begin, you’ll have to make sure the country on your Amazon account is correctly set for the content you’re trying to watch. It’s a pretty simple process: all you have to do is sign in with your Amazon account, then go to Your Account | Digital Content | Manage your Content and Devices | Settings | Country Settings.
Amazon Fire TV Stick VPN: Installing VPN app
First you’ll need to choose a VPN app to start watching region-locked content. There are a bunch of different ways to go about this via APK installs, but I’ve gone with the OpenVPN app on Google Play, as it’s by far the easiest way to get going.
It’s worth mentioning at this point that the Fire TV Stick doesn’t have Google Play support by default, so you’ll have to manually install it. As long as it’s on there, log in to your Google Play account, search for OpenVPN and install the application.
From here, you’ll want to navigate to the Settings page on the Fire TV Stick, go to Applications | Manage All Installed Applications. Find and launch OpenVPN and follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
Next it’s pretty simple. You’ll find the installed OpenVPN in the applications area of the Settings page. Launch it and select a VPN location from the list. Obviously, make sure this VPN location matches up with your Amazon address or it will never work.
You should now be good to go, with thousands of hours’ worth of content available right at your fingertips, with absolutely no restrictions.
Amazon Fire TV Stick VPN: Connecting to a VPN-enabled router
A VPN-enabled router is an incredibly handy thing to have, and can be used across all the devices connected to your home network. Provided you already have a VPN-enabled router or virtual router, it’s pretty straightforward to connect your Amazon Fire TV Stick to a VPN server.
All you have to do at this point is navigate to Settings | System | Network. Find the name of the VPN router that you’ve already set up, enter the password and connect – you’ll now be able to watch at your heart’s content.
