There are two certainties about the Android naming pattern. First, it will be named after a dessert or sweet. Second, it will be in alphabetical order. That said, some people think Google might skip O next year. Why? Presumably because there aren’t a lot of desserts beginning with O, limiting its options to have a cool (ish) name. Hm..
Google announced Android N last month and, as rumoured, it went with Nougat. Not exactly a great name, but not terrible either. As yet, we still don’t know if Android intends to jump to P or not.

What we do know is that the internet is getting scarily good at predicting/leaking the official name of Android’s latest operating system. So as soon as Google knows, we’ll all probably know. Until then, it’s pure speculation. So... here are our best attempts at naming Android O so far.
What will Android O be called?
Android Oreo
This is by far the most popular rumour out there so far. Google has previously teamed up with a confectionery brand for naming rights – with Android KitKat – proving it has no issues with sharing its branding. Whether it will go with Oreo or not, though, is anyone’s guess. At this early stage, we’re making it the favourite due to the lack of other nice desserts beginning with “O”.
Android Oatmeal Cookie
This one doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue, but it is a legitimate biscuit that begins with “O”. That’s something I suppose. The letter it begins with is probably all it has going for it. Oatmeal doesn’t scream “sexy, technologically advanced software”, does it? I’m putting this one in second place.
Android Orange Sorbet
I’m really struggling now. But, Key Lime Pie was reportedly waiting in the wings if the naming deal with Nestle for Android KitKat fell through, so why not Orange Sorbet? At the very least it will be one of the names on the Google marketing department’s brainstorming wall.
