When is Black Friday 2016?
Black Friday traditionally takes place on the first Friday after the American Thanksgiving holiday, which means it falls on 25 November this year – just one month before Christmas. Once Black Friday is over, another event called Cyber Monday gives you a second chance to snag any deals you’ve missed out on.
Why is Black Friday called Black Friday?
Black Friday might be one of the coolest names we’ve ever seen for any shopping event, but the story of its name is pretty tame. Most explanations suggest that the name was given to the sale by the Philadelphia Police Department.
When the police force saw the huge traffic jams, widespread violence and outright mayhem caused by low prices, it decided to call it Black Friday – and the name’s stuck ever since. Of course, Black Friday 2016 won’t look quite as bad, because most people will be shopping via websites such as Amazon, Tesco, Argos and Currys. That means you won’t have to physically fight other shoppers for deals, and we can point you in the direction of all the best Black Friday discounts, too. See? The internet isn’t just about memes and social media after all.
