There are a few feature-packed smartwatches on the market that offer connectivity, independence and fitness tracking. Step forward the Samsung Gear Sport, a new wearable that offers everything you’d possibly want from a smartwatch. So what does the new smartwatch offer?

Announced at IFA 2017 on 30 August 2017, the Gear Sport was showcased to the German crowd. Unfortunately, no information was divulged regarding its price or release date, but as soon as we receive more information, we’ll be sure to update this article.
Samsung Gear Sport review: Build quality and design
The new smartwatch comes in a stylish finish, but can be customised through the colourful wristbands. Unlike the Huawei Watch 2 that received criticism for not utilising a rotating bezel, Samsung has incorporated it within the design. This means you’ll be able to quickly flick between apps and tasks – a useful tool to have when using Android Wear 2.
The watch is water-resistant up to 50m, which means you can take it on swims without having to worry about it malfunctioning.
A heart-rate monitor can be found within the watch, helping you monitor your workouts and fitness. Through the Samsung Health app, you’ll be able to track your progress and count down the calories.
The watch will automatically detect movement and try to accurately monitor your progress. So, if you’re walking to your bicycle, then riding down the hill on the bike, it should, theoretically, pick up your activities without you having to manually tell it which one you’re doing. This is also aided by the built-in GPS chip, which will track your every move more precisely.
Samsung Gear Sport review: Connectivity
Connectivity was the key term at Samsung’s presentation at IFA 2017, and it comes as no surprise to see the Gear Sport integrated with other Samsung products. The watch will work with selected Samsung TVs, among other products, to showcase your workouts, activities and progress. It’s a simple touch, but one that adds to the connected home.
As mentioned above, the watch has built-in GPS and will connect to your network through Wi-Fi. If you’re looking to take the watch on a run, you’ll be pleased to know that you can store 4GB of music directly on it – meaning you can connect a pair of Bluetooth headphones to your watch and listen to your workout playlist.
Of course, the watch will also be able to answer and receive calls from your smartphone, allowing you to quickly glance at important events.
Samsung Gear Sport review: Early verdict
Having seen the Gear Sport, it looks elegant and perfect for those who want a smartwatch that offers good activity tracking and can be used discretely in the office.
