Sony has today confirmed that the PS4 has broken the one million sales mark in the UK since it launched last November, making it the UK's next-gen console of choice according to the latest independent sales data.
The figures come from industry analysts GfK Chart Track. The data also revealed that the PS4 has set a new record as the fastest next-gen console to reach one million sales in the UK, with the millionth console being sold alongside Destiny, Activision's latest sci-fi first-person-shooter that's out today.
Microsoft's Xbox One is estimated to have sold only 1.2m units in the whole of Europe compared to the PS4's 3.8 million across the continent.
"The demand for PS4 has been enormous, and we’re thrilled with the response from UK gamers," said Fergal Gara, UK & Ireland Vice President and Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.
"From day one, our sole focus has been making PS4 the best place to play, so we’re delighted that so many UK gamers have made it their next gen console of choice. We’d like to thank them for their amazing support and feedback so far, and assure them that their PS4 experience will only get better in the months and years to come."
This news follows the announcement that 10 million PS4 consoles have been sold worldwide. Until now, the console has only been available in black, but we suspect sales will jump even higher now that the new white PS4 has also gone on sale today to coincide with the launch of Destiny.
