We've been hearing rumours of an HTC-manufactured Nexus tablet for some time now, but it seems confirmation of its existance could have just arrived from an unlikely source. Nvidia has apparently spilled the beans in an online document, before either Google or HTC could make it official.
Legal documents hosted on Nvidia's website, filed ahead of the company's upcoming legal fight with Samsung and Qualcomm over GPU technology patents, refer to the Nexus 9, rather than the long-rumoured Nexus 8, but make it clear HTC is the manufacturing partner.
The offending PDF has since been removed from Nvidia's website, but was quickly captured by Droid-Life before the company could take it down. The passage that makes reference to the Nexus device lists gadgets other than tablets and smartphones to use the company's Tegra K1 processor, with the statement "The HTC Nexus 9, expected in the third quarter 2014, is also expected to use the Tegra K1" seemingly giving the game away.
Although this isn't concrete proof of the Nexus 9's existence or name, it's yet another leak that adds to the growing details we have regarding the unannounced tablet. It is believed to have an 8.9in display, with a 2,048x1,440 resolution and 281ppi pixel density, along with an 8-megapixel optically image stabilised (OIS) rear camera, 16 or 32GB of storage and the aforementioned Tegra K1 CPU. It should also arrive with Android L on board.
HTC has recently sent out invitations to US press for a "double exposure" event on the 8th of October, but this seems likely to be about the duo camera found on the HTC One (m8) rather than a tablet reveal. Either way, we'll be sure to bring you the news as we get it.
