CES 2018 is in full swing, and a bevvy of excellent tech announcements have already been let loose to the public. Chief among them, quite possibly, is a looming announcement from HTC, involving the much-rumoured Vive 2 VR headset.
But, at the time of writing, nothing is known about HTC’s latest, aside from a cryptic tweet posted over the weekend. The tweet, which appears to hint at new, higher resolution lenses, suggests an announcement will be made on 8 January. Coincidentally, that day is today.

Before then, we’ve scooped up everything you need to know so far about the HTC Vive 2. Sure, while official details may be sorely lacking as it stands, this article will be updated as soon as a Vive 2 announcement is made, along with our own hands on impressions of HTC’s latest. Enjoy.
HTC Vive 2: Everything you need to know
HTC Vive 2 UK release date: When’s it coming out?
Given the HTC Vive 2 hasn’t officially been talked about, we don’t have any word on when we can expect the spangly new VR headset to hit store shelves. Our guess? The original HTC Vive released in April of 2016, so I expect the new model will release around the same time.
We’re definitely clutching at straws here, can you tell?
HTC Vive 2 UK price: How much will it cost?
Likewise, as for the price, very little is known. Given the rumoured new and improved updates (more on that later), things might prove costly to both your wallet, and the PC required to pump out the added pixels.
Regardless, I think it’s very unlikely that HTC’s latest – and currently theoretical – VR headset will ask for much more than the original’s, now Brexit-inflated RRP of £759. Ask for any more than that, and HTC may struggle to ship out any units to even the more hardcore VR fan.
HTC Vive 2 features: What’s new?
And now to what’s new with the HTC Vive 2. Okay okay, this is all still theoretical, but remember that cryptic tweet I mentioned earlier? It does give us a little bit of an indication of what to expect of the Vive 2’s imminent CES announcement.
Signs point toward a proper, 4K VR headset. The first of its kind, the current HTC Vive incorporates a display of 2,160 x 1,200 – or 1,2080 x 1,200 per eye, while a 4K upgrade would make things much sharper.
HTC Vive 2: Early verdict
I’ve been asked to write an early verdict for HTC’s – currently theoretical – Vive 2 VR headset. As it stands, we know very little, but as far as VR goes, it’s about time someone changed up the mould, at least a little.
You see, neither the Oculus Rift nor the Vive has seen much change since their original release, and PlayStation’s own VR headset has all but died a dishonourable death, thanks to its lack of software support.
You see, we need a brand new VR headset to rekindle the VR flame, and HTC’s Vive 2 could be the headset to do it.
This piece will be updated as soon as we hear any official details.
