Last year, Lenovo announced its Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus handsets at MWC, but unfortunately we weren’t treated to any such revelations from the manufacturer at this year’s event. That probably means a launch is only a matter of days away, so we’ll keep this page updated with any concrete details about the budget handsets as soon as we learn about them.

The Moto G range has always got people talking, and this year’s devices are no different. There have been image leaks of the various different handsets and there are also rumoured specs for the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and the Moto G6 Play. We’ve also made informed estimates about how much we expect each of the phones to cost. So, until Lenovo finally spills the beans on its latest budget phones, here’s how we’re expecting the Moto G lineup to look.

Moto G6: Everything you need to know

It has to be said that we weren’t overly impressed by last year’s Moto G5: its performance saw little improvement over the Moto G4; there was still no NFC support; and its camera was poor in low light conditions. The higher-spec Moto G5 Plus fared slightly better thanks to its improved camera, but was let down by an underwhelming battery life and a non-removable battery. Unlike previous years, there was no budget Play version of the Moto G5.

We hope to see Lenovo put some of these things right this year, and if rumours that there’ll be a Moto G6 Play are anything to go by, then we might be in luck. If Lenovo comes up trumps with its Moto G6 line of phones, it could reclaim is crown as king of budget handsets.

Moto G6 Play: Specs

TrendyTechz leaked photos of what it claims is the Moto G6 Play, along with a 3D render, and although they’re fairly low-res, it looks very impressive.

For starters, it appears to borrow design features including a glass back and puck-style camera from the much more expensive Moto X4. The rumoured specs look great, too. It’s expected to feature a 5.7in, 18:9 HD screen, 16-megapixel front and rear cameras and a massive 4,000mAh battery.

Inside, everything’s supposedly powered by Qualcomm’s 1.4GHz Snapdragon 430 processor and either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. Of course, we can’t take any of these specs as fact until they’re confirmed by Lenovo, and we’ll have to wait and see if this phone lives up to expectations.

Moto G6: Specs

According to DroidLife, the whole Moto G6 line of phones will feature the same glass back and puck-style camera of the Moto X4, as pictured above in the leaked images of the Moto G6 Play. The site also claims that the Moto G6 will feature a 5.7in screen, although it’ll be a FHD+ (2160 x 1080) display, rather than the Moto G6 Play’s 720p screen. It’s expected to be powered by a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 450 chip and have a 3,000mAh battery. In terms of cameras, the Moto G6 gets the same 16-megapixel selfie snapper, but there’s also a dual camera arrangement on the back featuring both 12-megapixel and 5-megapixel sensors. Unfortunately, there’s still no news of NFC support.

Moto G6 Plus: Specs

The Moto G6 Plus will, as expected, be the top spec phone in the Moto G6 lineup, and DroidLife is reporting that it will feature Qualcomm’s 2.2GHz Snapdragon 630, the same mid-range chip that powers the Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra (link) and HTC U11 Life (link).

On the front will be a slightly larger, 5.93in FHD+ display than its lower-spec siblings and it also has a larger 3,200mAh battery. Typically, the Plus variant of the Moto G has always featured the best camera, but from the rumoured specs, there’s no real clue as to how it varies from the Moto G6’s snapper.

Moto G6: UK price, release date and colours

The Moto G range, despite expecting to launch at MWC, failed to appear. As such, we don’t have any firm details just yet, but an official announcement is expected very soon.

As for the prices, well, we don’t have any concrete details either, but we’d expect the Moto G6 Play to cost roughly £130, with both the G6 and G6 Plus costing about £170 and £250 at launch.

According to Android Headlines, which has already leaked a handful of high-resolution images of the Moto G6 Plus, the highest-spec handset will be available in five different colour variations: gold, silver, white, blue and cyan.

Droidlife, however, has predicted that the phone will launch in black, silver and dark teal. It also claims the Moto G6 will ship in black, silver and rose and the Moto G6 Play in dark blue, charcoal and gold at launch.
