In addition to its two new Kindle and Kindle Voyage eReaders, Amazon has also announced today that it will be launching a slew of new Fire tablets in a range of different sizes.
The all-new Fire HD6 is Amazon's cheapest tablet yet, costing just £79 for the 8GB version with adverts on the lock screen (or £89 without adverts). It's also available in a 16GB variation, which will cost £99 with ads and £109 without them. It will be available in a range of colours, including black, white, cobalt, magenta and citron and will be available from the 2nd October.
As its name implies, the Fire HD6 has a 6in display - a first from Amazon - and will have with a resolution of 1,280x800, giving it a pixel density of 252ppi (pixels-per-inch). Powered by a quad-core 1.5GHz processor, it will run Amazon's brand new Fire OS 4 "Sangria" operating system, which will be available on all 4th generation Fire tablets and will be available for all 3rd generation Fire tablets via a free software update in due course.
The Fire HD6 will also have a 2-megapixel rear facing camera as well sa a front-facing camera for video calls. Family members will be able to create their own profiles on the device as well, and you'll even be able to link two Amazon accounts to the same tablet with Amazon's new Family Library feature. This means you can share Prime Instant Video, apps, games and books with another family member without having to log in and out of your various accounts.
Amazon also announced a new version of its HD7 tablet as well. Its 7in display will have a 1,280x800 resolution, but otherwise it shares the same processor, rear-facing camera and features as the Fire HD6. It's available in the same colours and will also launch on 2nd October. Prices start from £119 for the 8GB version with ads (£129 without), and £139 for the 16GB version with ads, or £149 without.
Amazon's final announcement is a newer, faster model of its premium Fire tablet, the HDX 8.9. Weighing just 375g, the 8.9in display will have a huge resolution of 2,560x1,600 and a new quad-core 2.5GHz processor, which is 70 per cent faster than the current model, according to Amazon. It will also come paired with 2GB of RAM and an Adreno 420 GPU for playing games.
The Fire HDX 8.9 will also have an 8-megapixel rear camera which can record video in Full HD, and will support 802.11ac Wi-Fi. It will run Fire OS 4 like its smaller siblings.
Prices for the Fire HDX 8.9 start at £329 for the 16GB advert model with Wi-Fi only and reach all the way up to £409 for the 32GB, non-advert 4G version. The Fire HDX 8.9 will launch on 4th November 2014.
