Thanks to Amazon, there's a new day in the sales calendar alongside Black Friday and the January sales. And this one falls in the summer months: Amazon Prime Day is back for a fourth year in 2018 on Tuesday 17 July. For just one day (until 11.59pm), the shopping giant rolls out a vast array of deals and bargains. And yes, the whole thing is essentially a ploy to get you to sign up to their Prime scheme – but fair enough really, when you see the discounts applied to everything from flatscreen TVs to garden strimmers.
They've also got some great deals on top smartphones from Samsung, Motorola, Huawei and others. So if you're looking for a new handset, this is a good opportunity to snap up a bargain. And don't forget the actual perks that come with becoming an Amazon Prime member, which include extra-speedy delivery times and access to Amazon streaming services. 1. Samsung Galaxy S8 (was £645.99, now £439)
The S8 may no longer be the top of the Galaxy range, but as our full review explains, this is still a fabulous smartphone with a high-powered camera and slick design - made all the better with this Prime Day discount. You can save 32% off the RRP and snap it up for just £439.
2. Motorola Moto G6 (was £239, now £199.99)
Motorola caught the market by surprise a few years ago when it rolled out its Moto smartphone range – and the G6 is a more-than-worthy entry, as our full review describes. It has a classy design, an excellent camera and thanks to Prime Day, is highly affordable at just £199.99.
3. Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact (was £529, now £399)
Just six months after they wowed us all with the Xperia XZ1, Sony brought out this compact little follow-up, and as our full review attests to, for the most part it didn't disappoint. Its hefty price tag has been given a 25% discount, and until 11.59pm on Prime Day is just £399.
4. Huawei P Smart (was £250, now £144)
We were measured in our praises of Huawei's budget-priced P Smart – while it's certainly a well-made phone, the Honor 9 Lite was ultimately better value. But that may be no longer the case thanks to this Prime Day discount, which brings the cost of the P Smart down from £250 to £144. That's a 42% saving. Not bad at all.
