Led by the superb Xperia XZ2, Sony's current crop of top-notch smartphones are rarely to be messed with. Sure, they aren't without their shortcomings – notably, the XZ2's camera performance isn't quite as good as the snaps captured with the Galaxy S9 – but Sony's smartphone launches are typically met with anticipation and excitement. Sony fans rejoice – there's a new flagship smartphone headed your way, very soon.

Despite only releasing in April this year, there's already a successor to the Xperia XZ2 in the works. The appropriately-named Xperia XZ3 is expected to launch in August, during the annual IFA technology trade show.

Rumours about the new flagship smartphone have been rampant in recent weeks, with dribs and drabs coming to light as the rumoured release date edges closer. Below, you'll find out absolutely everything you need to know about Sony's Xperia XZ3, including UK price, release date and specs.

Sony Xperia XZ3 UK release date: When is it coming out?

The launch date for Sony's new smartphone is expected to be 30 August at the company's press conference at IFA 2018, the annual Berlin tech show.

Sony launched a raft of new smartphones at least year's IFA, including the Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact, and XA1, so there is a precedent for Sony to unveil a handful of new phones in Berlin. We expect the Xperia XZ3 to go on sale in September.

Sony Xperia XZ3 price: How much will it cost?

UK retailer MobileFun has listed a 64GB Xperia XZ3 at £750. It's obviously unconfirmed, but it's a price that makes sense, considering the Xperia XZ2 cost £699 at launch. A slight price increase for a next-generation model certainly seems plausible.

Of course, Sony is yet to pull back the curtain, so it's possible that MobileFun has somewhat jumped the gun with this pricing. There's always the likelihood that this is just a placeholder or an error, too, simply listing this phone as the XZ3 rather than the upcoming XZ2 Premium.

Sony Xperia XZ3 specs and features: What does it do?

The MobileFun store listing also includes some specification details. Included in the listing is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor – the same chip that powers the OnePlus 6– as well as 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. The screen measures 5.7in from corner to corner, at 2,160 x 1,080 resolution. There's a pair of rear cameras, one is 19-megapixels and the other is 12-megapixels, with a front-facing 13-megapixel selfie snapper. Other details include MicroSD expansion and a 3,240mAh battery.

A comment on the MobileFun listing from a site moderator suggests that the XZ3 won't launch with a headphone port, so it's possible that the phone will join the list of smartphones relegated to a USB-C connector for both charging and audio output.

A recent leak from Sumahoinfo (pictured above) confirms many of the MobileFun listing's details, but rather than a two-camera setup, the site says that the Xperia XZ3 will feature just one, massive, 47-megapixel camera. That would correlate with the recent render leak from Compareraja.in listed further down.

A leaked specs list, again from Sumahoinfo, confirms most of the MobileFun details, too, including the size of the phone and screen resolution. Most notably, the listed 183g weight would represent a 7.5% weight loss from the Xperia XZ2's 198g.

Sony Xperia XZ3 design: What will it look like?

Going by Sumahoinfo's leaked photographs above, the Xperia XZ3 doesn't seem to stray too far from the XZ2's design. The third Sumahoinfo leak suggests we may see a slimmer phone than the Xperia XZ2 – the spec sheet includes a thickness of 10.1mm.

Another leaker, Compareraja.in, revealed leaked renders of the smartphone on 24 July. The renders (shown at the top of the article and below) show off a solitary rear camera and seem to confirm the absence of a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The renders also show a curved edge to the screen, similar to the design of the Nokia 8 Sirocco, with chunky bezels above and below the screen – a Sony staple.
