Apple releases iOS 8.0.2 to squash 8.0.1 bugs

First iOS update quickly pulled due to mobile network and Touch ID problems

Just a week after the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were released with the new iOS 8 operating system, Apple released the iOS 8.0.1 update. This aimed to fix some bugs, such as HealthKit apps not being available on the App Store and problems with third-party keyboards and imaging apps.

However, the new update seemed to cause more serious problems than it solved, making some phones no longer able to connect to mobile networks, as well as stopping Apple's fingerprint scanner Touch ID system to stop working. The only way to get your phone working again was to use a cable, a computer and iTunes to roll back the update, showing we're not really living in a post-PC world after all.

In response, Apple has rushed out the 8.0.2 update, and, uncharacteristically, has apologised. In a statement to The Verge, the company said, "We apologize for inconveniencing the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who were impacted by the bug in iOS 8.0.1."

Apple should be commended for its speed in fixing the problem. In the past we would have expected a statement such as "You're updating it wrong", but under CEO Tim Cook it seems there is something akin to customer service coming out of Cupertino.
