Apple has begun sending out invites to members of the press for an event on the 16th of October, titled "It's been way too long" - at which the company is expected to finally reveal new iPad tablets, as well as officially launch OS X Yostemite, the latest version of its Desktop operating system.
The event, which is set to take place in the Town Hall auditorium on Apple's Cupertino headquarters campus at 10AM, has long been rumoured as the launch point for the iPad Air 2, and true to form Apple issued invites just over a week before doors are due to open.
Quite what Apple has in mind for the event remains to be seen; there have been relatively few leaks compared to last month's reveal of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, although there have been plenty of rumours. As well as a new iPad, and potentially an upgraded iPad Mini to go with it, the company could potentially reveal an updated iMac with a high-resolution Retina display - which would be a first for the all-in-one Desktop machine.
The event title could be a clue pointing towards a new Apple TV, which hasn't recieved a major upgrade since 2012 - having been given a minor processor refresh in January last year. Recent software betas suggest Apple is looking to integrate its HomeKit smart home API into the media streaming box, turning it into a central hub for any connected home automation devices. The other devices due for major hardware changes or physical remodels include the Mac Mini, which hasn't been updated since late 2012, and the MacBook Air laptop, which hasn't changed externally for several years.
Whatever Apple plans to announce, we'll be there to find out. We'll be covering the event from 5PM GMT on the 16th of October to bring you all the announcements, so be sure to check back on the night to see what Apple has to reveal.
