There's no question Google is working on both a Nexus 6 smartphone and a Nexus 8/Nexus 9 tablet - the only question remaining is when the company is going to make each device official. The answer may have come from, of all sources, Google itself, with a series of adverts seemingly posted online ahead of schedule hinting at a simultaneous launch.
The animated clips, first spotted by Reddit user ridsatrio, appear to show a new advert campaign for Android which will use the slogan "be together. not the same". The first, entitled Dance Party, is innocent enough, but it's the other two, Bus Stop and Winnebago, which appear to show unreleased products - one more obviously than the other.
In Winnebago, eagle-eyed viewers can see one of the Android characters using a grey tablet with a camera in the top right corner - coincidentally the design HTC is reportedly using for its long-rumoured Nexus tablet. In Bus Stop, meanwhile, the smallest character in a row of four waiting for the bus pulls out a massively oversized phone, which looks just like a Moto X but with Android L navigation buttons. Again, this matches leaks for the Motorola-built Nexus 6, which is rumoured to have a 5.9in screen.
All three videos have since been removed from Google's official Android website, but were saved to Dropbox by quick-thinking Reddit users.
Considering the videos were posted on the official Android website before being hastily taken down, we're fairly certain Google will be using the new branding once it launches Android L, and the slogan in particular is inspired - Apple frequently criticises Android for fragmentation, but "be together. Not the same" turns this argument upside down.
We'll know for sure when Google announces the nexus 6 and Nexus 8/9, which are both rumoured for a late October launch. Given that both appear in the series of ads, there's a good chance both will get unveiled at the same time.
