Dashboard and gamer profile customisation high on the list for next firmware update

Microsoft has officially confirmed the features due to make an appearance in the November Update for the Xbox One, adding visual customisation to the console for the first time as well as gamertag customisation and TV-centric features.

Revealed by Larry 'MajorNelson' Hyrb on his official blog, the November Update will let players customise their dashboard background, using either a custom colour or the art from any unlocked achievement. This will then appear behind the standard dashboard icons, adding a splash of colour to the usually black screen. In a later update, gamers will be able to use the Media Player app and use any custom image, although it's unknown when this functionality will make an appearance.

The Gamer Profile will also be getting a major overhaul, bringing back the short biography from the Xbox 360 as well as letting players create a short video showcase of their achievements or game DVR clips for others to watch and get a better idea of your favourite game genres, or skill level.

Twitter integration will be added for the first time, letting players automatically tweet out a message when they want to share a game DVR clip with their followers. It's an optional feature, and MajorNelson promised it won't be used to spam out game invites or achievement information. This brings the Xbox One on par with Sony's PS4, which has had Twitter integration for some time.

Other additions include a trending mode on the TV OneGuide, helping viewers find out what's popular with other Xbox One owners or Twitter, and a What's On section on the homescreen that highlights videos picked out by the Xbox editorial team.

As with previous dashboard upgrades, the November update will be released first to members of the Xbox Live preview programme, before being made available to all Xbox One owners later in November. There's currently no fixed date as to when we'll be able to download it, however.
