The latest version of the Windows 10 technical preview will add the Windows Phone Action Center to your computer's desktop, Microsoft announced yesterday. Build 9860 is the first update to the Windows 10 technical preview and will integrate Microsoft's mobile notification system into the desktop task bar.
"This build is focused ONLY on enabling basic notifications," said Gabe Aul, who leads the Data & Fundamentals Team at Microsoft's Operating Systems Group. "Quick actions and cleaner UI will come later."
It's a similar move to Google integrating its Google Now cards into its Chrome web browser, but rather than simply showing different notifications, Microsoft's Action Center will also let you follow up on all actionable items. You'll see notifications from the system and apps, including new emails, Facebook posts and IM invites.
Other new additions to Build 9860 include being able to move apps easily from one monitor to another. All you need to do is hit the Windows Key, Shift and arrow to move the app to another display. Microsoft has also added an animation for switching desktops to make it clearer. For a full list of new shortcuts, see Microsoft's blog post.
"Most of the changes in this build will be invisible to you," said Aul, "but we’ve made nearly 7,000 improvements and fixes to the product between 9841 and 9860. Many of those fixes were based on problem reports that you submitted in the Community forum or through the Windows Feedback app."
