Rockstar has officially confirmed that the next-gen re-release of Grand Theft Auto 5 will include a first person mode, letting players explore Los Santos through Michael, Franklin or Trevor's eyes. Not just a simple camera shift, the developer has instead reworked the entire game to add the first-person view when it arrives on PC, PS4 and Xbox One later this month.
Previous entries in the long-running crime series have included first person viewpoints before, but were simple affairs with no HUD or character interaction. That has changed for the next-gen version of GTA 5, which will arrive with full vehicle interiors, working aircraft cockpits and first person weapon models, including iron sight aiming. Vehicle handling has been tweaked to better suit the first person view, while new aiming systems including assisted and completely manual have been added to give players greater control.
Acording to Rockstar's Animation Director Rob Nelson, a first-person mode was planned during development of the original PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, but the smaller memory banks would have forced the team to make sacrifices in other areas. On new consoles and PC, that isn't an issue.
The new-gen re-release is set to run at a native 1080p, at 30 frames per second, and will include an increased draw distance, finer texture details and denser traffic over the original game, along with upgraded weather effects, new wildlife and new vegetation. It will also arrive with new activities, weapons and vehicles, as well as more than 100 new songs across the multiple in-game radio stations.
GTA V should launch on PS4 and Xbox One on the 18th of November, while the PC version should arrive on the 27th of January.
