Sony has confirmed that PS4 firmware version 2.01 is on the way later today, complete with a fix for the Rest mode issues affecting many gamers.
When firmware version 2.00 arrived in October, it introduced SharePlay, the ability to virtually hand your controller to another gamer to let them help you through any particularly troublesome parts of your games, or play local multiplayer games over the web. Unfortunately, it brought with it a bug that prevented Rest mode from working correctly.
Rest Mode is supposed to put the PS4 into standby, lowering power consumption but leaving the USB ports powered in order to recharge controllers or any connected peripherals. It should also download game and console updates in the background, so they are ready to install the next time you come to play the console. Unfortunately, that's not the case with firmware 2.00; in many cases, entering Rest mode makes it impossible to wake the console again, forcing owners to pull the plug and reboot manually, potentially damaging the hard disk in the process.
Sony is on the case though. A tweet from the official PlayStation account indicated the company was working on eliminating the bug, with a small firmware revision set to restore Rest mode to full working order.

A follow-up tweet from the European PlayStation account then confirmed it would be made available for download later today.

Sony has yet confirm whether it will fix the other issues being reported by gamers running the 2.00 version firmware, but for anyone with the rest mode issue relief seems to be in sight. Gamers should boot up their console, go to Settings then Software Update in order to bring their PS4 up to date, although at the time of writing the update wasn't available for our console. Expect it to arrive globally later today.
