Wired and wireless versions available, with both models supporting the new-generation consoles

Creative has officially announced the Sound Blaster Tactic3D Rage V2.0, the company's first wired and wireless gaming headsets to support the PS4 and Xbox One. An update to the original Tactic3D Rage headset first launched in 2012, the V2.0 model also gains support for Scout Mode when connected to a PC or Mac.

Sony gamers will be able to connect the wireless version of the headset to their console using the bundled USB dongle, or plug the wired headset directly into a DualShock 4 controller for virtual surround sound. From fully charged, the wireless headset should be good for up to 16 hours of continuous gameplay. Xbox fans, meanwhile, will need to invest in an Xbox One Stereo Headset Adapter to enable audio playback and the detachable, noise-cancelling microphone.

PC and Mac gamers aren't left out of the lurch though. As well as Scout mode, which amplifies and emphasises the subtle, discrete sounds in a game's audio mix, making it easier to hear enemies creeping up on you during a tense round of Counter Strike, SBX Pro Studio expands the default virtual surround sound profile to better replicate the experience of a 5.1 speaker system.

Little has changed in terms of looks or internals, with both models retaining the same 50mm speaker drivers, illuminated earcups with 16 million possible colour combinations and on-ear controls, and a spring steel core headband combined with soft, leatherette ear cups to create a snug fit. The USB cables have been improved, however, to minimise tangles without compromising on flexibility.

Both new headsets are expected to go on sale from December onwards. The wired Tactic3D Rage V2.0 should cost around £69.99 while the wireless version will set gamers back £79.99. Hopefully we'll be able to give both headsets a full review a little closer to launch.
