
Microsoft has started rolling out the November Xbox One update. Top of the list of changes is the ability to add custom backgrounds to personalise how the Xbox One looks. As there is no update in December this will be the last update the console receives this year, Microsoft confirmed.
A new custom backgrounds features lets users add custom colours and themes to the Xbox One. Using the Media Player app users can pick any JPG and PNG image from an attached USB drive and set it as the background image for the console. The Gamer Profile can now also be set to share your location and bio. Users can also set a number of 'showcase' items such as game clips or achievements to display when other games look at their profile.
Favourite game clips can now now be shared on Twitter with the Share button letting uses add a game clip to a Tweet before posting it to their account. Xbox One users in the US, Canada and UK will see a new ‘Trending’ tab in the Xbox OneGuide displaying the top 20 most-watched TV shows. US users will also see a Twitter TV trending tab, displaying the most-watched shows based on number of Tweets. The MiniGuide has also been updated to include favourite TV channels in a combined Recents and Favourites area.
The Xbox One Store has been updated to make finding content quicker and easier while SmartGlass has been updated to display more information including friends' game activity, Games and Gold deals and improvements to the Xbox One Store on SmartGlass.
A few fan-requested features also make it into the update. Internet Explorer can now be moved into snap mode by selecting an option in the Address Bar. Internet Explorer will also clearly display newly-added featured sites by displaying an asterisk. Finally, the Xbox One can now be restarted by selecting Power & startup and Restart now from the menu.
