Sky Go has been renamed as TV From Sky on PS4, but gamers will need a Sky Go Extra subscription to use it

Sony has announced that TV from Sky (or Sky Go, as it's more commonly known) will be launching on the PS4 from today. PS3 owners will have to wait a little longer, though, as TV from Sky isn't expected to launch on Sony's last-gen console until early 2015.

It's worth noting, though, that unlike Now TV, which is a subscription service available to everyone, Sky Go or TV from Sky is only available for Sky customers. What's more, you'll need a Sky Go Extra subscription to use it on your PS4, which costs an extra £5 a month on top of your usual Sky subscription. Unless you have Sky Multiroom, of course, in which case it's free.

Provided you have the relevant subscriptions, though, this means you'll be able to watch TV live or on demand on your PS4. This includes all seven Sky Sports channels, Eurosport, 11 Sky Movies channels, Sky Atlantic and third party channels such as Fox and Nickelodeon.

"The addition of TV from Sky today to the PS4 is going to delight all users of the newest, most powerful member of the PlayStation family," said Fergal Gara, Vice President and Managing Director for Sony Computer Entertainment UK. “ TV from Sky joining other services on PS4 including Now TV, further enhances our credentials as the ultimate gaming and entertainment package.”

The news comes just in time for a number of new TV dramas including Olive Ketteridge, Agatha Raisin and the complete box sets of True Detective and Scandal. Sky Movies customers will also be able to watch Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Noah, Elf and Frozen. Sky Sports customers, meanwhile, have the 2015 Word Darts Championship to look forward to.

This isn't the first time we've seen Sky Go appear on a games console, as Xbox 360 owners have had the service for some time. However, it was only in June that Sky began charging Xbox owners to use Sky Go, as until then it had been completely free. There's still no news on when the service will be heading to Xbox One, but it's likely the same price barrier will apply.
