Android 5.0 Lollipop has begun its worldwide roll out to Samsung Galaxy S5 owners. According to SamMobile, Galaxy S5 owners in Poland can now download Google's latest mobile operating system, with the rest of Europe to hopefully follow shortly.
The Polish version of the Galaxy S5 has the same model number (SM-G900F) as the one we have in Europe, so UK owners shouldn't have to wait long before they too can download the latest over the air update. Previously, Samsung has been tight-lipped on when Android 5.0 Lollipop will be arriving on its various handsets, but this latest development could signal the end of the company's silence.
This follows exactly the same pattern as the LG G3, which first launched its Lollipop update in Poland before moving to LG's home country of South Korea. However, at time of writing, Lollipop still hasn't made its way to UK G3 owners.
It's not just the Galaxy S5 which will be getting an Android 5.0 Lollipop update, though, as current rumours suggest the Galaxy S4 will also be getting an upgrade to Google's new operating system in the near future. However, it's currently unknown when this will happen. It could be some time before Lollipop reaches Galaxy S5 owners in the US, though, as all Android updates have to be tested and certified by the country's mobile carriers as well as the device makers.
You can read all about the new features of Android 5.0 Lollipop in our full review, but the most important tweaks for mobiles include Google's Material Design UI (although this is likely to be heavily customised in Samsung's TouchWiz interface when Lollipop does arrive on the Galaxy S5), a new app switcher, and notification support on the lock screen to name just a few. Android 5.0 Lollipop also adds 64-bit processor support and is meant to help improve battery life and performance.
