Next batch due to arrive on January 15th, with 566,438 customers left waiting in the wings

Nokia's highly anticipated N1 tablet went on sale in China today, but its initial batch of 20,000 tablets flew off the shelves in just 4 minutes and 2 seconds, according to NokiaPowerUser.com, leaving 566,438 customers disappointed. The Android 5.0 tablet isn't available in the UK just yet, with European launch plans still unknown, but luckily those left wanting in China will only have to wait until January 15th before the next batch of tablets arrive and go on sale.

All this fanfare might seem unusual for a Nokia tablet, but this 7.9in Android 5.0 slate is the first tablet to come with Nokia's brand new gesture-based Z Launcher skin, which automatically changes which apps and contacts are shown on the home screen based on your location and time of day. Add that to a high resolution 2,048x1,536 resolution screen, a 2.4GHz quad-core Intel Aton Z3580 CPU, 32GB of storage and a reversible USB Type-C port, and there's plenty to get excited about.

The N1's design also borrows liberally from the iPad Mini, making it a highly desirable-looking tablet. At 6.9mm thick and weighing just 318g, it's thinner and lighter than Apple's popular tablet and has a similar unibody metal construction.

Even better is the price. In China, it went on sale for 1,599 CNY, which is around $257 or £170, making it a bit of a bargain compared to the £239 entry-level iPad Mini 2 and £319 Nexus 9
