Microsoft announced a raft of new Xbox console bundles today at Gamescom, but arguably the most exciting is the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle. That's because it's the first one to feature the larger 1TB hard disk, meaning you can store a whole load more games, and other media, on your Xbox One.
The bundle is the most expensive of the three announced at £430, with the Xbox One FIFA 15 bundle and the Xbox One Sunset Overdrive bundle both costing £350. As with those bundles, this one does not have the Kinect peripheral bundled with it, so what are you getting for all that money?
Well, you get a copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare of course, plus a special-edition console and controller – both of which are done up in grey-and-black livery with extra spangly bits. Inside is that 1TB hard disk of course, but we're still a bit puzzled how a bigger hard disk and a fancy paint job can amount to an £80 price hike. You'd have to be a very big Call of Duty fan, or have big storage needs, in order to choose this over say the FIFA bundle plus a copy of Call of Duty: Advanced warfare for around £30 less.
There is one extra point to make though, and that's concerning the launch of the Xbox One TV Tuner. This device will let you record Freeview HD TV to the internal hard disk via the Xbox One's Unified Guide. With no support to date for external drives, a bigger internal disc will be a huge boon for those who also want to use their Xbox One as their main PVR. It's just a shame that the initial launch of the 1TB Xbox One comes in this very gamer-centric bundle, rather than a more multimedia friendly guise – bundled say with the tuner and Kinect.
Given how quickly the ridiculous special editions of Call of Duty sell out, we doubt Microsoft will have a problem shifting these roomier Xbox Ones though.
