The white Xbox One has long been rumoured and was finally confirmed to exist last week. Now it has been officially launched today at Gamescom. It comes in a bundle with Xbox-exclusive Sunset Overdrive for £350. The console itself is white, as is the supplied controller, there's no Kinect bundled here, but despite that it's good value.
The colourful and chaotic Sunset Overdrive isn't the most obvious choice for the purity of the white Xbox One's appearance, but that said it matches the games look better than the boring black model. We really like the white finish, as it make the boxy console look a little less monolithic, then again the black finish of the original certainly lets it fit without shouting out its presence, something helped by its very low noise levels – one thing the console does have over its PS4 rival.
At £350 including a game, this bundle puts considerable pressure on Sony, who is currently selling the (admittedly more popular) PS4 for the same price standalone. It's one of three bundles that will be on offer this Christmas. An Xbox One FIFA 15 bundle hits the same low price, but comes in black; while an Xbox One Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundle includes a 1TB hard disk and a special design.
It's notable that none of this Christmas's special bundles come with a Kinect bundled, possibly spelling the premature death of the largely unloved peripheral. With little support in big-name games, the Kinect has largely fallen into disuse, or is simply used for its voice command support.
