It has been widely assumed by the tech industry that Google is working on a successor to the Nexus 5, most likely the Nexus 6, but new leaked benchmark results suggest that might be wide of the mark; instead, Google could be planning to replace like for like with a Nexus 5 2014 edition, powered by Android 5.0 Lion.
If the benchmarks, provided by Russian twitter account @EMTLeaks, prove accurate, it would seemingly suggest Google's deal with Nestle for Android 4.4 KitKat extends to multiple versions of the operating system. Industry speculation had originally pegged the next version of Android as Lemon Meringue Pie or Lollipop, with Lion Bar being something of a wildcard. The chocolate isn't commonly sold in the US or Canada, Google's home territory, and so wouldn't be as widely known.

When Google announced the latest version of Android at Google I/O earlier in the year, it merely referred to it as Android L. With an official public launch not expected until later this year, that leaves plenty of time for the company to organise a tie-in with a confectionary company like Nestle, or change its mind and go the non-branded route instead.
The benchmarks seemingly also reveal that the 2014 Nexus 5 will be a beast of a handset, with a 5.2in, 2,560x1,440 QHD resolution display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor running at 2.7GHz, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and a 12-megapixel rear camera.
However, the twitter account responsible for the leak hasn't had much success in the past, so right now the benchmark results should be treated with strong suspicion. As much as we'd love a high-powered, high resolution Nexus to compete with Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 and LG's G3 smartphone, we won't hold our breath until Google makes an official announcement.
