Apple has uncharacteristically leaked the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 ahead of an event to announce the new tablets later today. The snafu came in an update user guide for iOS 8 on the Apple Store. The guide contains pictures of both the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.
While the images don't reveal any specs or new features on the new iPads they do show what they will look like. Both the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 will have almost identical designs to their predecessors with Touch ID being added to the Home button. The iPad Air 2 will also get Burst Mode for taking photos.
The images also reveal what Apple will call its latest tablets. Both the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 confirm a return to Apple numbering new devices rather than calling them 'new'. Apple will also use its event this evening to launch iOS 8.1, complete with Apple Pay.
The iPad Air 2 is likely to come in a new gold colour, have a faster A8X processor, better camera and slightly tweaked design. Apple is also expected to announce a new iMac with Retina display and discuss OS X Yosemite.
Apple took down the images and details of the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3 an hour after it accidentally put them online. The company will announce all its latest devices and updates at a press events in San Francisco in Berlin, both taking place at 6pm BST (10am in San Francisco).
